Yoga for Depression
So let the body speak for you now
without you saying a word,
like the student walking
behind the teacher says
this one knows better than I the way.
-Rumi
Psychotherapy is an invaluable tool for managing and overcoming depression. However, for many, it does not go far enough. Physical patterns of inertia and constricted breathing are often untouched by traditional psychotherapy. So, though you may understand the reasons for your depression, you unconsciously reinforce it through your habitual physical holding patterns. Yoga for Depression is designed to facilitate the movement of energy, and to acquaint participants with insights from Mindfulness training. In addition, Yoga for Depression gives you tools that can help with self soothing when you feel agitated and enhance your energy when you are experiencing inertia. Group meetings include interpersonal sharing between group members. You will be given homework assignments that encourage you to integrate your learning into your daily life.
